<description>Kieth Fields article is excellent and points our how fast data center technology is evolving. The installlation of flywheels is a wonderful GREEN technology (plus) and is described by EPRI and LBNL in the Energy Star EPA specification. Keith left out one very important change and that is to not only get rid of batteries but also get rid of the UPS units and distribute data center power as a DUAL BUS 400VDC. Now with 60 hz gone we can get rid of a lot of additional problems called PDUs, TRANSFER SWITCHES , harmonic problems and grounding problems. With less equipment we have lowered cost , inproved reliability and moved into the clean world of pure DC where the telephone eqipment people have been for over 50 years.
