Perhaps the biggest present obstacle to technological innovation is a lack of sufficiently small, efficient, high-capacity power sources. Many innovations, such as those in nanotechnology, could receive a progress boost if, for example, a tiny “battery” or other power source could be developed. Researchers at MIT have recently publicized findings indicating that carbon nanotubes may provide such a power source.

As economic factors put pressure on companies to reduce costs and as the public and government regulators demand more environmentally friendly practices, data center operators have an increasing incentive to find ways to run their facilities in a more efficient manner. To this end, some are arguing that moving from the traditional alternating-current (AC) approach to powering the data center to a direct-current (DC) model can yield tremendous benefits, both in reduced heat (and thus reduced cooling needs) and, concomitantly, reduced power usage.

Sharing is a good habit and normally it results in substantial savings for everyone concerned who shares. This simple concept of every day life is what is implemented in the facilities of co-location as well. Defined in the simplest terms, co-location is nothing but the utilization of rented resources from a third party instead of building the entire IT infrastructure. This is very helpful in case of smaller companies who may not have the time, energy or resources to build, maintain and manage their own data centers. Hence the best way is to choose a good co-location provider and use their services.
