If you are located in California and looking for data center electrical rebates from your power company, namely Pacific Gas & Electric then you have already taken advantage of rebate opportunities. Some more good news has arrived in that PG&E is also including energy efficient storage – specifically thin provisioning and massive array of idled disks, or MAID, storage – to the host of technologies that can earn data centers some hefty rebates.

To date, PG&E has offered nearly $20 million in rebates since 2006 and is considered one of the leaders in the power industry in how it works with data center owners to be more energy efficient.

By encouraging thing client storage helps to encourage data center owners to eliminate over provisioning storage and being more efficient.
PG&E is looking at other rebate opportunities such as thermal energy storage which uses power during the evening or off peak hours to cool water to then be utilized during the day for the data center.
