Another opening for a data center elitist - Microsoft Corp

It would appear that a new data center from the elite data center class such as Google, IBM or Microsoft is being planned or opened every week. The data center boom has exploded just as more and more users to the internet are getting on.

In some ways the data center is like a train station located strategically along a railroad line (internet) so people and commerce can be moved.

The elite group of data center developers are strategically locating their data centers to ensure theirs and your connection to the world remains up and running.

The latest opening comes from San Antonio, Texas where Microsoft has opened its latest of several facilities powering its consumer and online businesses. Other recently planned Microsoft facilities include Quincy, Washington, Des Moines, Iowa and a new facility in Chicago, Illinois.

The company said the data center occupies nearly half a million square feet and costs $550 million to construct.

"Microsoft looked at 31 variables in narrowing its site selection to San Antonio, including the availability of fiber-optic networks, affordable energy rates, and a work-life balance for our employees that the city offered," Microsoft General Manager Mike Manos said in a statement.
